PUBLIC SPEAKING
schools, universities, conferences, organizations

“Mike was an amazing guest! He engaged the students and motivated them to become writers and illustrators!”
— Courtney Mackey, Morris Central School

Virtual and In-Person Events Available.

Mike Lowery has had the pleasure of speaking at many colleges, the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, book fairs (including the Scholastic book fair), book stores, elementary schools, galleries (including the High Museum of Art, where he did a live drawing) and events. Additionally, he was a Professor of Illustration at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta for seven years.

Mike’s school presentation is full of information about being an author and illustrator, weird facts, and other fun stuff that kids will love. It’s entertaining and very informative, and he ends the presentation with an interactive, live drawing activity with your students. He will also leave plenty of time for questions and a book signing.

Presentation topics for illustrator groups and colleges can include portfolio reviews, self-promotion, finding a style, the children’s book Illustration process, keeping a sketchbook, digital illustration, and much more.

The information he presented was thought-provoking, fascinating, and full of weird and hard to believe but entirely true stuff.
— The Dalton School
His energy with the kids and faculty was absolutely brilliant. The way he spoke captivated the kids and even got the adults involved.
— Cooperstown Central Elementary School
Mike was down to Earth and extremely funny. Staff and students found his presentation engaging and entertaining. His ability to inspire students was impressive as well. Many of them, including my own children, were raving about Mike and his books for weeks. They were even inspired to start carrying journals and drawing regularly.
— Margie Libling, Malta Ave Elementary
We had the pleasure of a visit from Mike Lowery this year. It was great! The students loved hearing about how ideas turn into books and the illustration process. Mike even looked at their portfolios, offering tips and advice. He drew lots of pictures and talked about the creative process. After his visit, our students were inspired to start drawing their own creatures and characters
— -Rachel Best, Librarian. Knoxville, TN.
He spent the day with our students talking about his life and career as an artist. His presentations were engaging and as a bonus … he is a really funny guy! If your school is looking for a visiting illustrator that taps into students’ artistic talent and is passionate about his work, I highly recommend Mike Lowery. Thanks for a wonderful day of learning!
